Geronimo

Geronimo, 69' Cutter-rigged Sloop

Ted Fontaine specifically designed Geronimo for St. George's School and she was built in 1998 by New England Boat Works. Geronimo is a United States documented vessel and is inspected and certified by the United States Coast Guard as a Sailing School Vessel. As a School Sailing Vessel, Geronimo must meet a wide range of standards set for its certification. This includes regular inspections of the vessel by the U. S. Coast Guard, safety inspections, drills and a high level of certification for the professional crew.

They focus on teaching seamanship and navigation skills, and allow students to assume leadership responsibilities while they are sailing in Geronimo. Since students sail as crew members, not passengers, they are instructed in all aspects of sail handling and emergency procedures.
